9:30 AM - 10:25 AM - PITCH PERFECT PANEL DISCUSSION - LITERARY AGENTS
Put your best pitch forward. Tips & tricks from a panel of agents and industry experts on how to pitch to an agent. All of the pitching agents for the conference will be on this panel, so here's your chance to get to know them and ask anything before your pitch! If this is your first time pitching, be sure to attend this panel!
10:30 AM - 11:25 AM - editor's session & workshop - amanda filippelli
This session is two-fold: First, let's talk about rejection. Get the real scoop on why editors and literary agents reject queries and proposals. Learn how to manage rejection, what to do after a rejection, and how to improve your pitch! Plus, get an anonymous live critique of the first page of your manuscript or book proposal! Next, get the no b.s. dish on all things editing. How do you find an editor? What should you look for? What is the editing process like and why is it important? Come with your questions!

Join author Lindsey Smith and her editor at St. Martin’s Press, Laura Apperson, as they share insights into how the author-editor relationship works. Learn what you can expect on your journey, and about how this relationship is formed and managed throughout the traditional publishing process!

2:00 PM - 2:55 PM - haiku workshop - Staci Backauskas
Dig deep to discover the essence of your story using the ancient Japanese art of Haiku. Authors of all experience levels will explore what lies below the surface of plot and character and develop the laser focus necessary to identify what the story is really about. Guaranteed to provide a solid foundation on which to create your pitch!

Structuring plots, world-building, character profiles... writing great fiction is hard (but so much fun)! Join literary agent Marisa Corvisiero from Corvisiero Literary Agency to learn about the world of children's book publishing.
3:30 PM - 3:55 PM - Niche Better Have My Money - Muffy Mendoza
Muffy Mendoza is an author, speaker, and motherhood motivator who shepherds a community of nearly 4,000 African-American mothers in the Pittsburgh region. She authored the book, The Brown Mama Mindset: A Blueprint for Black Moms on Life, Love & Home in May, 2018. Already, her book has been featured at the 2018 Essence Festival and is sold in bookstores in Louisiana, Georgia, Missouri, and Illinois. She credits the success of her book with being able to galvanize a local and national community under the common banner of empowering black mothers. Her talk will focus on how to build a loyal tribe that will serve as activists for your book, brand, and message.

Meet booksellers and the authors who are sold in their stores. Get all of your questions about how to get your book in bookstores answered + learn tips from those who've been through it all!
