9:00 AM - 9:30 AM - WELCOME TO PITCH, PUBLISH, PROMOTE!

Check-in with your ticket, grab a cup of coffee, and make a new friend! Pitch Publish Promote is being held at Ascender. Head into the main entrance, and take the elevator to the 3rd floor. 6401 Penn Ave, Pittsburgh PA 15206. There is free parking in the open lot. 


9:30 AM - 10:30 AM - PITCH PERFECT - PANEL DISCUSSION - LITERARY AGENTS

Put your best pitch forward. Tips & tricks from a panel of agents and industry experts on how to pitch to an agent. All of the pitching agents for the conference will be on this panel, so here's your chance to get to know them, and ask anything before your pitch! If this is your first time pitching, be sure to attend this panel!


10:30 AM - 4:50PM - AGENT PITCHING - ALL AGENTS

Agent pitching will begin at 9:30am and continue throughout the conference. Please refer to your individual pitching schedule (located in your welcome packet) for your slot times. 


10:30 AM - 11:00 AM - THE PUBLISHING INDUSTRY - LINDSEY SMITH

Everything you need to know about the publishing industry. Learn the pros & cons of self-publishing v. mainstream publishing. Hear the differences between working with a small publisher, publishing on your own, and publishing with one of the top 5. If you're a new author, be sure to check this out. 


11:00 am - 11:30am - what comes next? - sangeeta mehta

What happens once your book gets picked up? Learn about the back-end of publishing houses. Sangeeta shares what you can expect from a publishing house, how a manuscript gets to be a bound book for sale, and more. Learn about the back-end of your publishing house. Sangeeta shares what happens to your book as it goes from manuscript to bound book for sale, and everything in-between.


11:30 AM - 1:00 PM - LUNCH 

Lunch is on your own. Download a list of our favorite local spots on the 'where' page. 

There will be no agent pitching during lunch.


1:00 PM - 1:30pm - spoken word session - pittsburgh writers & one idea press

Local writers perform their poetry & spoken word live. Get that inspiration flowing!


1:30pm - 2:00pm - editors session - Bonnie budzowski

Learn the secret to finding your perfect match in an editor. Whether you're interested in self-publishing or traditional publishing, a great editor is your biggest asset and every successful author's secret weapon! Bonnie will walk you through how to find a great editor, what to expect from the process, and how to creatively collaborate to tell your story, but come prepared with all of your questions about the editing world as this session is meant to be a discussion and learning experience to help you along your publishing path. 


2:00pm - 2:30pm - launch & leverage your publicity plan - beth caldwell

Authors have been known to frighten UPS drivers while awaiting the delivery of their new book. Instead of stalking the UPS driver, use this time to launch and leverage your publicity plan. You’ll learn how to create relationships with the media, build a realistic press list, develop talking points and invite the media to your book launch. 


2:30pm - 3:00pm - author platforms - lindsey smith & dontaira terrell - author panel discussion

How to create your unique author platform and promote your book. Learn how to navigate independent presses and self-promotion. Lindsey and Dontaira discuss promoting yourself across platforms, making connections, and unique ways to get your book out in the world. Plus a Q&A with local authors on their unique experiences.


3:00pm - 4:00pm - creative writing workshop - amanda filippelli

Learn how to hone your skills as a writer and sharpen your craft by diving into the conventions of both fiction and nonfiction with award-winning writer and Editor-in-Chief, Amanda Filippelli. If you'd like a live critique of your work, bring the first page of your manuscript and turn it in at registration. Please label the genre of your manuscript at the top of the page. Amanda will be picking ten first pages to critique during her panel.


4:00pm - 5:00pm - THE PATH TO PUBLISHING - PANEL DISCUSSION - INDUSTRY EXPERTS

Q&A session for a range of topics including how to deal with rejection, choosing the right editor, publishing your second book, and more. Was there something you didn't get the chance to ask your favorite speaker earlier? Here's your chance, all available speakers on this open Q&A. No question off limits! 


5:00 PM - CONFERence CLOSING
